World Cup 2019 | Six times when India outclassed Pakistan
New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Cricket is considered as a religion in both Indian and Pakistan and an encounter between the two is no less than a war.
The two sides have faced each other six times in a World Cup with the Men-in-Blue winning all six of them.
The two teams first met in a World Cup during the 1992 edition and till 2015, we have seen six fascinating encounters between the two sides.
Here is a quick recap of these clashes which have defined the World Cup rivalry between the teams till date:
1992 Sydney: India Won by 43 runs
India and Pakistan faced each other for the first time in a World Cup in 1992. India scored a respectable 216/7 thanks to Sachin Tendulkar who scored 54 runs. In reply to this Pakistan managed only 173, thus India won the match by 43 runs.
1996 Bengaluru: India won by 39 runs
The two sides faced each other next time in 1996 in Bengaluru. India scored an impressive 287/8 thanks to Navjot Singh Sidhu’s 93. Pakistan managed just 248 tuns, handing India a 39 run win.
1999 Manchester: India won by 47 runs
India again faced Pakistan at the 199 World Cup and scored a decent 227/6. In their reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 180 runs thanks to a brilliant effort from Venkateshwar Prasad who took a five-wicket haul in the match.
2003 Centurion: India won by 6 wickets
In the 2003 World Cup, Sachin Tendulkar had a dream run as he scored more than 600 runs. This time Pakistan batted first and scored 273/7 thanks to a brilliant century from Saeed Anwar. But yet again India came victorious as Sachin Tendulkar smashed every Pakistani bowler and helped India win the match easily by 6 wickets.
2011 Mohali: India won by 29 runs
This was quarterfinals of the World Cup and both the teams were ready to do anything to win the match. India batted first and scored a decent 260/9. Pakistan in their reply were bowled out for 231 runs handing India a win by 29 runs.
2015 Adelaide: India won by 76 runs
Till 2011, it was Sachin Tendulkar who was leading the responsibility of the Indian batting line-up but now it the baton had come to Virat Kohli, who became the 1st from India to hit a century against Pakistan in a World Cup match. Kohli's 107 propelled India to 300/7. In reply, Pakistan were troubled by the bounce and pace of Mohammed Shami, who took 4 wickets helping India won the match by 76 runs.
