Manchester | Jagran Sports Desk: Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar slammed skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed via a video on his YouTube Channel and said that he appeared ‘brainless’ when he opted to field first after winning the toss.

In his video, Shoaib said that Pakistan had committed the same mistake which India had committed in the Champions Trophy final in 2017.

"The mistakes committed by the Indian team during the Champions Trophy 2017 final were repeated by Pakistan yesterday. I can't understand how Sarfaraz can be so brainless,” said Shoaib.

He said that despite knowing that Pakistan doesn’t chase well, Sarfaraz elected to field first which was a brainless decision.

“How could he forget that we don't chase very well. Knowing our strength, which is bowling, is important. The game was half-won by Pakistan when Sarfaraz won the toss, but he tried hard to lose the match. Toss was very crucial and even if Pakistan had made 260, with their bowling, they could have defended it. So I think it was just brainless captaincy,” he said.

Shoaib continued and said: “It's a very saddening and disheartening performance from the Pakistan team captain. I wanted to see shades of Imran Khan in him but it's too late for him now," lamented Akhtar.”

Pakistan was hammered by India at Old Trafford in Manchester. After electing to field first, Pakistan failed with the ball as India scored a mammoth total of 336. In reply, Pakistan were reduced to only 212 after rain reduced the match to 40 overs.

This was Pakistan seventh straight defeat to India in World Cups.
