‘They are obviously…’: Here’s what David Warner said when asked about rivalry between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith
New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: The rivalry between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Australian batsman Steve Smith has been a point of talking over the years. Experts and fans have always differed on who is the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) and a debate on this has been on for quite some time now.
Recently, Australian opener and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captain David Warner was asked about who is better between Kohli and Smith who said that they (both Kohli and Smith) are obviously two of the best batters in the world across all three formats.
“In comparison with him (Kohli) and Smith, they are obviously two of the best batters in the world across all three formats. It is going to be a great battle between them if that’s what people are anticipating,” David Warner told India Today.
Warner said that it’s more about Australia vs. India contest above anything else, and went on to anticipate a great contest between the two cricketing superpowers when the two sides are poised to meet in Australia in December this year.
“For us, it’s about Australia vs India, we don’t look at individual battles. If it’s individual, it’s bowler vs batter. At the end of the day, we have to do our research well. We know our line and lengths to bowl in Australia. Use our conditions right. Hopefully, the contest is great between bat and ball and great spirit of cricket battle as well.” Warner added.
Warner had earlier said that he admired Virat for the ‘amazing’ way he has led the Indian team under his captaincy.
“He (Virat) is a terrific guy and the way he has lead the Indian Team has been amazing, they are amazing side and can’t wait to play them when they come out to Australia this year will be something incredibly special,” Warner had earlier stated on Cricket Connected.
The top two contenders in the global cricketing circles as for the best modern-day batter after the era of Pointing and Sachin, zeroes down at India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s Steve Smith. Both Kohli and Smith keep on exchanging the ICC number one spot across the formats, with Kohli currently enjoying an edge over Smith in terms of his ICC rankings.
