'It has become your home': CSK leaves special message for Dhoni as he leaves Chennai amid coronavirus scare | Watch
New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: With the cash-rich league IPL being postponed till April 15 due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country, Chennai's date with former India skipper MS Dhoni was cut short as he left Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) base amid huge fanfare.
"It has become your home, sir!" Keep whistling, as #Thala Dhoni bids a short adieu to #AnbuDen," CSK said a tweet along with a short video of fans queuing up to get a glimpse of Thala as the franchise captain left Chennai. The cricketer was seen signing autographs and interacting with supporters.
Dhoni fans have to wait a little longer to see him in action. The legendary wicket-keeper batsman has not featured in any matches since India's World Cup semifinal loss to New Zealand in July 2019.
The cricket governing body BCCI and the IPL team owners on Saturday held a meeting where they decided to follow the 'wait and watch' policy till the end of the ongoing month. Only then will they decide on the next course of action with regard to the fate of the upcoming edition of the IPL.
On the future of action, the IPL 2020 season will be a truncated affair, said BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Saturday.
"If it happens, it has to be truncated because if it starts on April 15, then anyway 15 days are gone. How truncated, how many games, I can't tell at the moment," he said as quoted by IANS.
The government on Wednesday had earlier cancelled visas of all foreign nationals till April 15 in order to contain the COVID-19.
The Ministry of Sports also followed it up by making it clear that all sporting events should be cancelled in wake of the coronavirus outbreak, adding that if unavoidable, the events should take place in empty stadiums to avoid mass gatherings.
93 COVID-19 cases have been so far reported in the country with two deaths.
