New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Tuesday equalled R Ashwin and Y Chahal as the leading wicket-takers in T20Is for the Men in Blue. The 26-year-old reached the feat by dismissing Dasun Shanaka-- in the 17th over-- in the second T20I held at Holkar Stadium, Indore. Bumrah, now has 52 wickets in 43 matches at average of 20.40. Chahal and Ashwin on the other hand has 52 wickets each from 36 and 42 matches. Lasith Malinga is the leading bowler in the T20I format with 106 wickets and the only bowler with three-figure mark.

This was Bumrah’s first international game since September 2019. The right-arm pacer was ruled out of the series against South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies due to a stress fracture. For the second instance in his T20I career, he bowled the opening over the match and started off the proceedings brilliantly. He didn't allow Sri Lanka openers to open their arms at the death overs by bowling his stock deliveries-- yorkers.

In the match, Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field first. Indian bowlers justified the decision by restricting Sri Lanka for just 142 runs. Shardul Thakur scalped two wickets wickets while Navdeep Saini and Kuldeep Yadav scalped two wickets each.


In reply, India chased down the target with 7 wickets in hand and 15 balls to spare. Opening batsman KL Rahul scored 45 runs while Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer added 34 and 32 runs respectively. With the win, India now lead the T20I series 1-0. The next T20I is scheduled to take place at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium, Pune on January 10.
