Ind vs SA, 3rd Test, Day 3: Men in blue reduce Proteas to 132/8 at stumps, two wickets away from series whitewash
New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: A top spell from Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami reduced South Africa to 126/8 in their second innings during after India inflicted a follow-on on day 3 of the ongoing third Test between India and South Africa held at JSCA stadium in Ranchi.
Mohd. Shami scalped three wickets and Yadav bagged two wickets.
Meanwhile, Dean Elgar was concussed off a bouncer by Umesh Yadav. Theunis de Bruyn replaced him for batting.
The day's play began with Zubayr Hamza and skipper Faf du Plessis out in the middle with South Africa trailing by 488 runs. The team got all out for just 162 runs in their first innings, trailing by 335 runs. Hamza top scored with 62 runs while George Linde and Temba Bavuma added 37 and 32 runs respectively. Umesh Yadav scalped 3 wickets while Shahbaz Nadeem, Mohd. Shami and R Jadeja shared two-wickets each.
Earlier, South Africa had scored 9/2 at stumps on day two after bad lights stopped play.
Team India had declared at 497/9 after Rohit Sharma (212) slammed his maiden double Test double-century, Vice-Captain Ajinkya Rahane (112) struck his eleventh Test century. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also turned his bat around to score his 13th Test half-century.
In his innings, Rohit Sharma hit 28 fours and six sixes in his score of 212 runs taking just 255 balls. The 32-year-old's innings was filled with patience and dominance as he scored 148 runs in boundaries and rest 64 runs off 211 deliveries. Ajinkya Rahane, on the other hand, scored 115 runs off 192 balls that included 17 fours and a six. Together they built a partnership of 267 runs for the fourth wicket and helped India recover from early blows. India were reduced to 39/3 in the opening session on opening day.
South African bowler Kagiso Rabada scalped three wickets while left-arm spinner George Linde picked up 4 wickets, but couldn't help India restrict to a lower total.
