New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The Proteas were reduced to 9/2 until bad lights stopped play on day two of the ongoing third Test held at JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.

Earlier, top performances from Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane helped India declared their innings at 497/9. Rohit Sharma slammed his maiden double Test ton while Rahane hit his eleventh test century. Rohit scored 212 runs off 255 balls with the help of 28 fours and four massive sixes.

The 32-year-old's inning was filled with both composure and attack. He scored 140 runs in boundaries off just 34 balls and scored the rest of his 72 runs off 221 deliveries. He was finally dismissed by Kagiso Rabada after getting caught in the deep by Lungi Ngidi.

Rohit was joined by his partner Ajinkya Rahane (115), who earlier struck his 11th test century to guide India past 300 runs. Together the duo shared a partnership of 267 runs for the fourth wicket.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also brought up his half-century.

The play resumed at 205/3 on day two with Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma at the crease. South African bowlers who benefitted in the opening session on Saturday looked clueless on day two. Lungi Ngidi and Dane Piedt, in particular, were taken to the cleaners by the Indian batsmen.

Off-spinner George Linde was the only bowler to get fruitful on day two, he scalped four wickets including centurion Ajinkya Rahane.

Earlier, Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat first on the opening day of the final test match. India were left tottering at 39/3 in the opening session after which Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane took the game away from the opposition.

Team India lead the series 2-0 and are eyeing for a whitewash. SA, on the other hand, are looking for a consolation victory.
