Ind vs SA: ‘To hell with the pitches,’ says Ravi Shastri after India sweeps Test series
Ranchi | Jagran Sports Desk: Head coach Ravi Shastri on Tuesday heaped praises for the Indian team after the hosts crushed the Proteas by an innings and 202 runs in the third Test in Ranchi to complete a 3-0 clean sweep on Tuesday.
Lauding the team, Shastri said the current Indian Test team is equally strong in overseas conditions.
“Our formula was to take pitches out of the equation. 'Bhaad me gaya pitch' (to hell with the pitches). 'Bees wicket nikaalna hai'. (We have to take 20 wickets),” said the Indian head coach at the post-match presentation.
“When you have five bowlers who can take 20 wickets, bas that's what matters,” he added.
Shastri heaped praises on the batsmen that helped India win last two Tests by an innings especially of Rohit Sharma and said that the star opener has shown himself to be of different class in the newly-acquired role of a Test opener, acclimatising exceptionally well to the challenges posed by the position.
“Ajinkya Rahane was always there in the middle order, he only needed to rediscover, which he did himself. Rohit is different class. As an opener he needed to have a different mindset, he acclimatised. It was a difficult pitch to start with but usne jhela,” Shastri said.
“He has it in him to be unfazed by difficult conditions. What he has done in this series is tremendous,” he added.
Shastri also praised debutant Shahbaz Nadeem, who took four wickets in the match, saying that he ‘extremely impressed’ everyone.
“Extremely impressed. Yesterday when he got his first wicket, I was saying 'If Bishan Singh Bedi was watching, he would've said 'cheers young man'. It was a spinner's delight. To watch it from the outside was classical,” he said.
