‘Heartbreaking’: Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma pledge to contribute in PM-CARES Fund to aid battle against coronavirus
New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Amid the surge in the number of coronavirus cases in the country, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his wife and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma on Monday pledged to extend their support to the PM-CARES and Chief Minister’s Relief Fund of Maharashtra to combat COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
The 31-year-old cricketer announced his move to contribute for the relief fund on his social media handles. Kohli said that that the sufferings of the infected people is breaking his heart and hoped that his contribution would help in easing the pain of the fellow countrymen.
Taking to Twitter Kohli wrote, "Anushka and I are pledging our support towards PM-CARES Fund & the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Maharashtra). Our hearts are breaking looking at the suffering of so many & we hope our contribution, in some way, helps easing the pain of our fellow citizens #IndiaFightsCorona."

However, the duo did not revealed the amount they were donating for the relief funds, but according to news agency IANS, a source in the industry close to the couple said that Virat and Anushka have jointly donated Rs. 3 crore towards the cause.
Among the cricketers, Suresh Raina donated Rs 31 lakhs to PM-CARES Fund and Rs 21 lakhs to Uttar Pradesh CM's Disaster Relief Fund to combat the coronavirus, while master blaster Sachin Tendulkar also donated Rs 50 Lakh to aid the battle against the deadly coronavirus.
Former Indian batsman and Lok Sabha MP Gautam Gambhir said that he has released Rs 1 crore out of his MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) towards the relief efforts amid the coronavirus pandemic.
On Saturday, PM Narendra Modi anounced the creation of the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund and appealed to all the countrymen to show their support for the cause.
