‘He played like the results did not matter to him’: Rahul Dravid reveals mantra to MS Dhoni’s success
New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid heaped praises on MS Dhoni saying that he had a special ability that made him produce many match-winning knocks.
MS Dhoni has been a revelation for Team India ever since he stepped onto the 22-yard cricket strip in international cricket. At first, his power-hitting came into the notice of many, including his teammates, opponents as well as experts of the game.
Dhoni's wicketkeeping skills became the talk of the town with his lightning-fast stumpings against spinners and the occasional dives while keeping to the pacers, despite his back issues popping up from time to time.
In his glorious career, the former Indian skipper has always been a hot topic of discussion among cricket experts and fanatics.
Recently, in an interaction with Sanjay Manjrekar for ESPNCricinfo, Rahul Dravid revealed about Dhoni saying, “You watch MS Dhoni play during the backend of a match when he was at his best, you always felt like that he is doing something really important to him but he is playing it like the result does not really matter to him,"
“I think you need to have that or you need to train for it. It is a skill that I never had. The consequences of any decision mattered to me. It would be interesting to ask MS Dhoni that is this something that has come naturally to him or did he work on this during his career." he added.
Dhoni has not played international cricket since playing in the ICC World Cup semi-final against New Zealand last year. Ever since then, Dhoni's future has been the talk of the town. Even while the tournament was going on, reports suggested that the former India skipper would retire after the end of the World Cup.
However, he sprung a big surprise by taking a sabbatical from the game which is yet to end. His sabbatical would have ended this month in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He had also started training for the league in Chennai before the BCCI suspended the league till April 15 in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, and now it is postponed and yet to announce. Only time will tell how the future unfolds for MS Dhoni.
