'You'll be sent to jail': SC pulls up Noida, Greater Noida authorities over Amrapali case
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Noida and Greater Noida authorities to start registration of flats in favour of Amrapali home buyers.
Coming down heavily on the two bodies, the top court said that “officers will be sent to jail if there is any delay on their part in handing over possession of flats to buyers.”
In response, Noida and Greater Noida authorities told the apex court that they have formed special cells and appointed designated officers to look into the problems faced by Amrapali home buyers.
Last month, the Supreme Court had cancelled the registration of the embattled Amrapali group under the Real Estate Regulatory Authority and the lease of its properties granted by Noida and Greater Noida authorities.
In relief to almost 42,000 home buyers, the top court had directed Noida and Greater Noida to handover a completion certificate to the flat buyers who are already residing in various projects of the group.
The apex court had appointed the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) to complete all the pending projects of the Amrapali group.
The court had observed that home buyers' money was diverted in violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and the foreign direct investment (FDI) norms.
It directed the Enforcement Directorate to investigate the alleged money laundering by Amrapali CMD Anil Sharma and other directors and senior officials of the group.
The court added that Noida and Greater Noida colluded with the realty group in allowing diversion of the home buyers' money and not acting as per the law.
