The benchmark Sensex opened 72 points lower at 37,600 points in early trade. While Nifty looked barely flat as it fell 32 points to 0.29 per cent. The losses continue after the RBI announced 0.25 per cent rate cut that hit the bank stocks on Friday as Sensex and Nifty ended 433 and 139 points lower.
Gold prices continued to surge higher on Monday, rising 0.3 per cent to Rs 38, 439 per 10 grams of pure gold. The price rise comes amid uncertainty over trade talks between US and China. The rupee depreciated by 19 paise at 71.07 in early trade.
This is the fifth consecutive that fuel prices have dropped. Petrol prices dropped by 13 paisa while Diesel prices slipped by 10 paisa. The overall price has dropped by 80 paisa and 39 paisa in last five days. The price drop comes ahead of assembly polls and elections in several states. Brent crude opened on a flat note on Monday.
The price reduction comes as the tensions ease in the gulf region post aftermath of drone attacks on Saudioilfacilitiesthatjittered global markets last month.

Sensex continued its losses on Monday, losing 141 points to end at 37,531 points while Nifty slipped 48 points to settle at 11,126 points. The losses were dragged by IT, banking, pharma, FMCG and oil stocks. The Rupee depreciated by 18 points to 71.07 USD. Brent crude advanced 0.41 per cent to USD 58.61 per barrel.
