Today, our main focus is Sensex that surged by 226 points and Nifty that closed at 12,248 points led by gains in private banks like ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Kotak Mahindra. It is likely to bore the brunt of China's Coronavirus that has hit the global economy in last few days. 

Here's how the markets fared today:

Benchmark Sensex plunged over 458 points on Monday following intense selloffs in many overseas markets amid fears over the global economic impact of China's deadly coronavirus. The broader NSE Nifty closed 129.25 points.

Sensex: 41,155

Nifty: 12,119

Tata Steel was the top loser in the Sensex pack, diving 4.31 per cent, followed by IndusInd Bank, HDFC twins, SBI, PowerGrid and Bharti Airtel.

On the flip side, M&M, UltraTech Cement, Tech Mahindra, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank rose up to 1.63 per cent.

Stock exchanges in Europe too opened significantly lower.

Brent crude oil futures dropped 3.24 per cent to USD 57.95 per barrel.

upee depreciated by 15 paise to 71.48 per US dollar

Here's how the markets opened today:

Sensex has tumbled 282.74 pts to 41,330.45 in opening session, while Nifty fell 89.05 opts to 12,159.20 tracking losses in index-heavyweights HDFC duo, Kotak Bank and Reliance Industries amid weak global cues.

In metal prices, Gold sirged by 0.42 per cent while Silver added 0.62 per cent.

Silver: Rs 47,225 per kg

Gold: Rs 40,520 per 10 grams at MCX.

Meanwhile, petrol prices dipped by 9 paise while Diesel shed 19 paise. The overall prices has plunged by Rs 1.19 and Rs 1.3 respectively.

Rs 73.77 in Delhi, Rs 76.39 in Kolkata, Rs 79.38 in Mumbai and Rs 7662 in Chennai

Diesel per Litre

Rs 66.77 in Delhi, Rs 69.12 in Kolkata, Rs 69.88 in Mumbai, Rs 70.52 in Chennai.
