Today, our key focus is on equity markets and the plunge in prices of metals. On Monday,Sensexhad settled flat despite gains in telecom shares Airtel, Vodafone and RIL that gained up to 19 percent whilekey metals Gold and Silver had shed 0.4 per cent and nearly 0.7 per cent respectively.

Here's how the markets fared today:

The S&P Sensex settled 126 points below to 40,675 while Nifty shed 54 points to 11,994 dragged mainly by losses in metal stocks, tracking weak global sentiments in the wake of slapping of tariffs by the US on imports from Brazil and Argentina. 

The markets are expected to be positive amid positive trade negotiations between the US and China. Yes Bank was the worst hit with 7.81 per cent decline. It was followed by Tata Steel, Vedanta, M&M, IndusInd Bank and Tata Motors -- shedding as much as 5.07 per cent. On the other hand, Bajaj Auto, TCS, Kotak Bank, Infosys and HDFC were among the major gainers.

Nifty: 11,994 points

The benchmark Sensex opened 50 pointshighto 40,852 while Nifty gained 19 points to 12,067 points.

Fuel prices remained flat in Tuesday's trade.

Petrol per Litre:

Rs74.99 in Delhi, Rs 77.6 in Kolkata, Rs 80.58 in Mumbai and Rs 77.89 in Chennai

Diesel per Litre

Rs65.79 in Delhi, Rs 68.14 in Kolkata, Rs 68.94 in Mumbai and 69.47 in Chennai

Gold: Rs 37930 per 10 grams of pure gold

Silver: Rs 44250 per kg
