New Delhi | Jagran Technology Desk: JioMart, an e-commerce platform which has several small merchants and kirana shops on board to serve Indian consumers, has introduced its operations via WhatsApp Order Booking Service amid the nationwide lockdown in place to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Owned by Reliance Retail, Jiomart launched an exclusive WhatsApp number, which is currently receiving orders from the consumers at selected locations for essential goods, while promising them the delivery within 48-hours.

Jiomart’s operations via Whatsapp have been launched less than a week after Facebook bought 9.99 percent stake in Reliance Jio. The Reliance Retail has launched a WhatsApp push for JioMart, in selected areas in Maharashtra; Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Kalyan for its currently on-going testing phase.

However, Jiomart stated in its website that it is not offering home delivery, and the consumer will have to head to the nearest kirana store to pick up their delivery.

How to access Jiomart via Whatsapp?

As per a report published on NDTV, the user needs to save the number +91 88500 08000 as ‘JioMart’ in his/her smartphone and drop a text ‘Hi’ on the number through Whatsapp.

You will receive an auto-generated message which will specify the locations at which the service is available. At present, it is available in Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan – all satellite towns of Mumbai.


The auto-generated message contains a link for order, clicking on which will take you to the browser interface of Jiomart where after filling in the basic details such as the Name and Address – you can place your order as per the list of commodities available.

After placing the order, JioMart sends you a Whatsapp text about total amount to be paid, while mentioning the nearby Kirana store name and address (along with the Google Map link to locate the same) from where the user can collect the delivery.

The specific time of delivery at the nearby Kirana store is notified within 48 hours.


The JioMart is touted as a venture to descend the role of middlemen in the essential goods’ tier of the Indian Grocery market. The company says to have started it to improve the price affordability of products for the Indian consumers. Jiomart services are expected to go live across the country in the next few months
