Forbes India Rich List 2019: Mukesh Ambani retains top spot, Adani jumps to second position
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Forbes India has released the list of richest Indians for 2019 and Reliance Industries’ Chairman Mukesh Ambani has once again bagged the top spot as his net worth swelled to USD 51.4 billion.
“He added USD 4.1 billion to his net worth as Jio, the three-year-old telecom unit of his Reliance Industries, became one of India’s biggest mobile carriers with 340 million subscribers,” said Forbes.
The Forbes India said that 2019 was a challenging year for the nation’s wealthies because of the economic slowdown.
“In all, 14 were poorer by USD 1 billion or more, and nine members from last year’s ranks dropped off. More than a third of that decline was due to the remarkable largesse of tech tycoon Azim Premji, who gave away a chunk of his fortune in March and consequently dropped in the ranks to No. 17 from No. 2,” the Forbes added.
The second on the list is Infrastructure tycoon Gautam Adani who jumped from the eighth position to the second spot with a net worth of USD 15.7 billion.
Ambani and Adani were followed by the Hinduja brothers (net worth of USD 15.6 billion), Pallonji Mistry (USD 15 billion), and banker Uday Kotak (USD 14.8 billion).
The list also included six newcomers. Byju Raveendra was at 72 with a net worth of USD 1.91 billion, Manohar Lal and Madhusudan Agarwal were at 86 with a net worth of USD 1.7 billion, Sandeep Engineer of Astral Poly Technik was at 98 with a net worth of USD 1.45 billion.
