New Delhi | Jagran Business Desk: The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced the final tranche of Rs 20 lakh crore economic stimulus. She announced increased health spending and said that health and wellness centres will be ramped up. Public health labs will be set up at block levels. 

"Health expenditure will be increased and investment at grassroots level will be ramped up for health and wellness centres, with particular focus on aspirational districts. All districts will have infectious diseases block in hospitals. Public health labs will be set up at block levels," Sitharaman was quoted as saying by ANI.

Earlier today, she said that more than Rs 4,113 crores have been released to states. Insurance cover of Rs 50 lakhs per person has been announced for healthcare workers and Epidemic Diseases Act was amended for protection of healthcare workers.

The Finance Ministry also announced steps to prepare for any future pandemic.

The Finance Minister while announcing the details of Rs 20 lakh crore economic stimulus to deal with COVID-19 situation in the country, said that a majority of measures have been announced on land, labour and liquidity.

Besides Healthcare, she also focused on MGNREGA, education, businesses and COVID, decriminalization of Company’s Act, ease of doing business, public sector enterprises and resources related to state governments.

The government has announced numerous steps for MSMEs, migrant workers, farmers, poor migrants, financial entities, among others. 

Nirmala Sitharaman said that 1st tranche of stimulus this month amounted to Rs 5.94 lakh crore; 2nd Rs 3.10 lakh crore; 3rd Rs 1.50 lakh crore and Rs 48,100 crore in 4th, 5th tranches.

The Finance Ministry added that Rs 20 lakh cr economic stimulus includes Rs 8.01 lakh crore of liquidity measures by RBI and Rs 1.92 lakh cr package in March.
