PM Narendra Modi To Address ‘Vesak Day’ Celebrations In Colombo

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on his second visit to SR Lanka in two years, will today address the celebration of ‘Vesak Day’ in Lankan capital Colombo today. The PM is in the island nation primarily to participate in the International Vesak Day celebrations, the biggest festival of Buddhists. The two countries were set to sign an agreement to lease out oil tanks to India to jointly operate a strategic oil facility in the eastern port district of Trincomalee. But Sri Lanka's opposition parties have objected to the deal, saying the government was selling state assets to India.

 

US President Donald Trump Says He Was Going To Fire FBI Chief James Comey Anyway

President Donald Trump today said he was going to fire FBI director James Comey regardless of the Justice Department’s recommendations, contradicting the White House’s earlier account that he acted on the recommendation of top justice officials. "I was going to fire him regardless of recommendations. Regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey,” President Trump told NBC News in an interview, the first after he abruptly fired Comey early this week.

 

Election Commission Convenes All-Party Meet Over EVM Issue In New Delhi Today

The Election Commission is set to meet 55 parties today to allay concerns of EVM tampering: The poll panel will demonstrate the security features of the electronic voting machines and make a decision on the proposed upcoming hackathon. The Commission has convened the meeting of seven national and 48 state parties to discuss the reliability of EVMs after 16 parties urged it to revert to the ballot paper system claiming faith of people in the machines has eroded. Earlier, Delhi’s ruling party Aam AAdmi Party had made a demonstration in the state Assembly on how a chip can be used to hack the EVMs.

 

Ummer Fayaz Killing: Lashkar, Hizbul Terrorists Involved In Brutal Murder Identified

Six terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen were involved in the abduction and killing of a young Army officer in Shopian district of Kashmir and a massive manhunt has been launched to catch them, defence sources said. The bullet-riddled body of 22-year-old Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz from Kashmir was found in Harmen area of Shopian yesterday morning, hours after he was abducted by militants from Batpura village.

 

Flipkart Set to Buy Snapdeal, Makes A Tentative Offer Of $1 Billion: Report

Japan's SoftBank has finally secured the crucial nod from co-investor Nexus Venture Partners (NVP) for sale of Snapdeal to India's largest e-commerce firm, Flipkart, sources said. Snapdeal was valued at $6.5 billion in its last funding round in February 2016. The valuation, however, has shrunk since then and the potential deal could see the embattled e-commerce firm being valued at about $1 billion, said market watchers.
