Firebrand Hindutva Icon Yogi Adityanath To Take Oath As UP CM Today

In a surprise move, the BJP on Saturday chose firebrand Hindutva leader Yogi Adityanath as the new Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister with two deputies -- a first in the state -- in Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma. The new dispensation would be sworn in on Sunday at 2.15 p.m., Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu told reporters after a meeting of the newly-elected 312 BJP legislators here.

Jat Stir: Delhi Police Announces Closure Of Routes In National Capital

Delhi Police on Saturday said that several routes in the national capital, including Zakir Hussain Road, will be closed in view of the Jat agitation on March 20, 2017. The routes will be closed from March 19, 8.00 pm onwards, to prevent the march of Jat community members to Parliament announced for Monday. According to an advisory issued by the Delhi Police, the roads which will remain closed include Kemal Ataturk Marg from Race Course Metro Station to Panchseel Marg and Safdarjung Road to Aurobindo Chowk, among others.

Permanent Indus Commission Meet: Indian Delegation To Leave For Pakistan Today

An Indian delegation will tomorrow leave for Pakistan to take part in the meeting of Permanent Indus Commission (PIC), beginning March 20 in Islamabad. The 10-member delegation, which will take part in the two-day meeting, comprises India's Indus Water Commissioner PK Saxena, MEA officials and technical experts. Government sources said India is open to discuss concerns Pakistan has over its projects under Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) bilaterally.

North Korea Tests New Rocket Engine: KCNA

North Korea has tested a new high-performance rocket engine, the country's state media said today. Overseeing the test, leader Kim Jong-Un "emphasised that the whole world will soon witness what eventful significance the great victory won today carries", KCNA reported, hinting that the North is preparing to launch a new satellite rocket. "The development and completion of a new-type high-thrust engine would help consolidate the scientific and technological foundation to match the world-level satellite delivery capability in the field of outer space development, he noted", KCNA said.

LeEco Will Not Exit Indian Market, To Launch New Products In 2017

Chinese handset maker LeEco said that it would continue to launch new products in the smartphone and LED TV segments in 2017 while reiterating that it would not exit from the Indian market. The company, which today strengthened its presence in the LED TV segment by launching three models under its new Super4 Series, said that it is aiming to corner at least double digit market share in the segment in FY 2017-18.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Father Krishnaraj Rai Passes Away In Mumbai

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's father Krishnaraj Rai passed away at a suburban hospital here due to health issues. Rai was hospitalised a few weeks ago and later shifted to the ICU. He was reportedly battling cancer. "Aishwarya's father Krishnaraj Rai passed away at the Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra," the publicist of the actress had told PTI.

A sombre looking Mahendra Singh Dhoni left the Feroz Shah Kotla separately while the other members of the Jharkhand squad left by team bus after their 41-run loss to Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semi-finals. Under Performing Colleges/Varsities May Be Shut Or Merged

The "under performing" educational institutions may be asked to close down or merge with others if they fail to improve their performance despite a UGC-backed mentoring programme, sources said. With the University Grants Commission (UGC) all set for a rehaul, the Union HRD Ministry has chalked out a roadmap for the restructuring to a system which is more autonomous and encourages minimal regulation. "It is being considered that an audit be conducted of all the educational institutions and varsities, and they be classified into three broad categories depending upon their performance on a range of parameters," they said.
