Trivendra Singh Rawat To Be Sworn In As Uttarakhand Chief Minister Today

Appointing Trivendra Singh Rawat as the new Uttarakhand Chief Minister after his election as the BJP's Legislature Party leader, Governor K K Paul on Friday extended an invitation to him to form the new government. Under powers vested in the Governor under Article 164 (1) of the Constitution, the Governor appointed the just elected Leader of BJP Legislature Party Trivendra Singh Rawat as the Chief Minister and invited him to form the new government, a Raj Bhawan release here said.

The suspense over next Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh will end today as the BJP is likely to make an announcement later in the day. However, the picture is not clear till now as speculations are rife and many say that the choice would be between Union Home Minister Rajnath and Manoj Sinha. The newly-elected BJP legislators are scheduled to elect their leader in Lucknow today evening. According to officials in the office of the Union Minister of State for Railways and Telecom, Sinha will reach Ghazipur, his parliamentary constituency, on Saturday and will go to Mughlasarai later in the day.

Pakistan today conveyed to India that it was "seriously pursuing" with its law enforcement agencies the case of two missing Indian clerics, an issue External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said has been taken up with the "highest level" in the Pakistani government. Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria told PTI in Islamabad that, "no clue to the missing Indian priests has been found so far" but Pakistan was "pro-actively pursuing" the case.

A 46-year-old Lieutenant Colonel of the Indian Army allegedly committed suicide outside his house in southwest Delhi's Dwarka area. His family members told police that he was stressed that he might be court-martialed soon. A case of misappropriation of funds was going on against him in Siliguri, Assam. No suicide note has been found so far but prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide, said DCP (Southwest) Surender Kumar. "A PCR call was received from Salaria Apartments in sector 20 today around 7 AM. We were informed that Lt Col Jagdish Prakash was found hanging from the grill near the stairs leading to his house," he said.

The Jammu and Kashmir BJP today said under pressure from China, Pakistan had decided to declare Gilgit-Baltistan region, bordering PoK, as the fifth province. China has blocked the photo sharing website Pinterest, which has over 150 million users, the website GreatFire, which monitors the state of internet censorship in China reported on Friday. In earlier years, Pinterest, used mainly to share photos, had occasionally faced access issues from China but those seem to have become permanent since the middle of last week, GreatFire said.
